Stick Drift Repair & Calibration Guides
Use these guides to test analogue stick drift, try safe calibration steps and understand when a worn stick needs replacement. Prestige Mobile Solutions currently focuses on stick drift repair and stick upgrades for supported controllers.

Start with the symptom, then decide whether calibration or repair is needed
Stick drift does not always mean the controller needs a new module straight away. These checks help separate game settings and calibration problems from physical wear inside the analogue stick.
Symptoms
What stick drift looks like
Stick drift means the controller reports analogue movement when you are not deliberately moving the stick. It can affect either the left or right stick and may be mild at first.
Common signs
- Your character walks or runs without touching the stick.
- The camera slowly turns by itself.
- Aiming will not stay centred.
- Menus move without input.
- The stick feels loose, rough or does not spring back to centre cleanly.
- One direction does not reach the same range as the others.
What can cause it?
- Wear inside a standard potentiometer-style analogue module.
- Mechanical play inside the stick mechanism.
- Contamination or damage inside the sensor assembly.
- Incorrect centre or range calibration.
- A replacement stick that was fitted but not calibrated correctly.
- Less commonly, damaged pads, traces or board circuitry.
Before booking
Test the controller before assuming the stick is worn
A quick test can show whether the fault follows the controller across games and whether the stick returns to centre.
- Restart the console or PC and reconnect the controller.
- Test the same stick in more than one game.
- Check the game's dead-zone settings. A very small dead zone can expose mild wear that another game hides.
- Return unusual controller profiles, remaps or sensitivity settings to normal while testing.
- Use a controller input tester or the supported calibration tool for your controller to watch the stick position.
- Release the stick and check whether it settles close to centre instead of continuing to report movement.
- Move the stick around its full range and check for missing range, jumps or uneven movement.
If you have to keep increasing the dead zone to stop unwanted movement, the stick may be wearing out even if the game becomes playable again.
PlayStation controllers
DualSense, DualShock 4 and supported PlayStation online calibration
The DualShock Calibration GUI can be used from a compatible desktop browser to test supported PlayStation controllers and perform stick calibration. It is especially useful after stick replacement or when you need to confirm whether the stick is centred correctly.
Open the DualShock Calibration GUI. Connect the controller directly to the computer and follow the tool's on-screen instructions.
Basic calibration guide
- Open the calibration site on a desktop computer using a supported browser.
- Connect the controller to the computer with a suitable USB data cable.
- Select Connect and choose the controller when the browser asks for permission.
- Run the quick test and watch the left and right stick values while the sticks are untouched.
- If the centre is incorrect, use the stick-centre calibration option and follow each on-screen step.
- Move the stick through its full range and check that movement is smooth and reaches the expected edges.
- Test the controller again before making any calibration permanent.
- Only save changes permanently when the result is correct.
If the physical module is worn, calibration may not remove the drift or may only mask part of it. A worn stick normally needs replacement first, followed by calibration.
Xbox controllers
Xbox thumbstick calibration
Supported Xbox controllers can use Microsoft's Xbox Accessories app on Xbox or Windows for controller configuration and guided calibration options where available.
- Connect the controller to the Xbox console or Windows PC.
- Open the Xbox Accessories app.
- Select the controller and open its configuration or calibration options.
- Follow the guided thumbstick calibration steps if they are available for that controller.
- Retest the controller in more than one game after calibration.
If the controller still reports movement while untouched, or the stick has physical looseness or uneven range, the fault is more likely to need stick replacement.
Diagnosis
When calibration can help — and when it cannot
Calibration corrects how the controller interprets stick position. It cannot replace damaged or worn mechanical parts.
Calibration may help when
- A replacement stick has just been installed.
- The stick centre is slightly offset but the module feels mechanically sound.
- The movement range is uneven after repair.
- A controller has valid calibration data that needs to be corrected after stick work.
Replacement is more likely when
- The stick drifts again straight after calibration.
- The stick is loose or has excessive physical play.
- Values jump or flicker while the stick is held still.
- One direction has poor or missing range.
- A large dead zone is needed to hide the fault.
- The controller has already been recalibrated several times with no lasting improvement.
Our repair options
Standard analogue replacement or Hall Effect upgrade
When the stick itself is worn, the correct repair is normally to replace the failed module and calibrate the controller afterwards.
Standard analogue stick replacement
A cost-effective repair for a worn drifting stick. The failed module is replaced, then the controller is calibrated and tested.
Hall Effect stick upgrade
A magnetic-sensing upgrade for supported controllers. It avoids the same contact-style sensing method used by traditional potentiometer sticks and can be a good long-term option.
One or both sticks
If only one stick is faulty, a single-stick repair may be enough. If both sticks show wear, replacing or upgrading both can make sense while the controller is already being serviced.
Calibration after installation
Correct centre and range matter after replacement. We calibrate supported controllers and verify the stick movement before return.
Persistent drift usually needs a physical repair.

Parts availability
What about buttons, triggers, charging ports and other controller faults?
Stick drift is the controller repair service we currently stock and promote. We do not currently source the wide range of model-specific parts required for general controller repairs.
If you have a faulty button, bumper, trigger, charging port, battery, shell or another controller part, contact us first. If you source and supply the correct replacement part for the exact controller model and revision, we may be able to fit it or assess the repair. Acceptance depends on the fault, the supplied part and the condition of the controller.
Before buying a part
- Send us the exact controller model and fault first.
- Do not assume parts from a similar-looking controller revision are compatible.
- If possible, send the product link for the part you plan to buy so we can check whether it appears suitable.
- A supplied replacement part will not fix unrelated board, trace, connector or liquid damage.
- We may need to inspect the controller before confirming that fitting the supplied part is practical.
